Description
“Born in the strife-torn days of the Texas Revolution, the 141st Infantry Regt. has seen service in every war in which the nation has since participated…” – Text, lower left.
This fascinating WWII campaign chronicle is a well-deserved celebration of the numerous contributions the 141st Infantry Regiment made to Allied victory. The image captures the unit’s path across ‘five years, five countries, and five campaigns’; beginning with landing on the beaches near Salerno and ending with occupational duty in Bavaria.
Several detailed illustrations offer a glimpse into the life of a soldier in the 141st, reflecting personal aspects of the war such as hygiene, women, and exhaustion. A list of commendations and legends in the lower right corner offers further proof of the regiment’s valor – three Medal of Honor recipients were among its ranks.
The map was illustrated by John E. Pretsch and published in Germany in 1945.
