Description

This vibrant pictorial postcard of Fisherman’s Wharf was produced in San Francisco circa 1960 by the H.S. Crocker Company, Inc. as part of the firm’s iconic Mirro-Krome line. Replacing the textured, matte finish of the earlier ‘linen’ era, this card features the high-gloss, deeply saturated hues that defined mid-century souvenir photography. Publication by the Smith News Company highlights a local partner that was eager to capitalize on the burgeoning market.

The scene captures several piers crammed with small fishing boats, with one, the Susie, headed out into the bay. Restaurants include Alioto’s, Tarantino’s, and Castagnola – all sadly closed, though the last is currently in the process of reopening. The iconic landmarks of Alcatraz and Coit Tower can be seen in the upper corners.
