This small and ephemeral map marks the first phase of combat operations for the 97th Infantry Division during World War II. The 97th was one of two divisions (along with the 86th) rushed to the E.T.O. to support Allied forces following the Battle of the Bulge. The image shows the approach to the Rhine River in early April 1945, opposite Dusseldorf, Germany. Various attached units are identified using standard American military symbology.
