Description
This fascinating wooden puzzle features a pictorial map of the world designed by the talented Ernest Clegg to celebrate the global expanse of Firestone company operations. Tire factories in Akron and Los Angeles are connected to rubber plantations in Liberia and Sumatra via shipping lines, railroads, and telegraphs.
Decorative vignettes and elements from classical cartography like a compass rose, windhead, and sea monster provide an attractive aesthetic for a visualized worldwide market largely built on the thinly veiled exploitation of property and labor. Text beneath the title makes the financial incentives clear.
“Here are world-wide resources…gigantic enterprise…skilled organization…devoted to the practical ideal of delivering the greatest mileage at lowest cost…From raw material to finished product…direct buying…direct selling…direct distribution from factory to consumer through authorized Firestone Tire Stores everywhere…Firestone saves you money and serves you better.”
