Description
This simple map of the world was designed by Joe Phillips and published by the Civic Education Service in Washington, D.C. in 1966. It was originally issued as part of a ten-sheet set of wall maps designed to be hung in the classroom.
Major milestones in the history of exploration, beginning with Columbus sailing to America, are illustrated and captioned throughout. A scene in the lower left and the accompanying text refers to one of the final frontiers of discovery – outer space. Just three years after publication, Neil Armstrong became the first person to step foot on the moon.
