Erivan
The Biblical Mt. Ararat.

Description
This is a fanciful historic view of Erivan (Yerevan, Armenia), with what is probably Erebuni Fortress situated in front of Mt. Ararat in the background. The latter was the alleged landing spot of Noah’s Ark, which can be seen perched precariously at the peak. Figures in the foreground reflect local Persian authority.
The print was originally published in 1683 in Paris as part of Alain Manesson Mallet’s monumental Description de l’ Univers – one of the most influential works of the 17th century. This particular example was likely issued in a somewhat later edition.
