ERIN HAS A NAME FOR IT: A Map of Ancient Ireland
$50.00
A map of prominent Irish family names published for St. Patrick’s Day.
Description
Drawn by Bill Rowley for Associated Press and issued in the March 17, 1952 edition of the Cleveland News. Many of the paper’s readers would ostensibly claim Irish heritage on that day above all others, and this would have been used as a spurious reinforcement of some claims, valid or otherwise.
Text claims the map is based on records dating back to the 11th century, but the author hedged his bets by stating “it has not been possible to include all names due to the limitations of space.” A fun mid-century look at Irish heritage in the Midwest.
