Description

The history of Dorney Park began with the establishment of a trout hatchery outside of Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1860. Solomon Dorney hoped to sell his fish to local markets, as well as offer a tempting location for anglers and outdoors enthusiasts. What started as a few shaded picnic groves developed into a public attraction, and by the 1880s the grounds featured rides, a hotel, a restaurant, games, and a small zoo.

This souvenir map, published over a century later, highlights the park’s longevity and success. Dozens of thrills, amusements, and guest amenities are illustrated and labeled throughout. Highlights include Hercules, LASER, Cedar Creek Cannonball, and ThunderHawk, which first opened in 1924 and is one of the oldest operating roller coasters in the world. An inset in the upper right shows Wildwater Kingdom, the attached waterpark.

Designed and produced in 1993 by Citigraph, Inc. of Raleigh, North Carolina. The year prior to publication, Dorney Park was sold to the Cedar Fair Corporation.
