Hot summer temperatures and high humidity have irritated residents of Chicago since the first Fort Dearborn, but the introduction of the railroad and, later, the automobile, meant that city dwellers could beat the heat with greater ease. A favorite vacation destination was (and remains) Door County, Wisconsin, advertised here as Wisconsin’s Air Conditioned Paradise. This ‘Fun Map’ of the county pinpoints various locations of interest, including outdoor recreation (especially fishing), historic sites, and natural features. Scenic, county, and U.S. trunk highways are noted according to the legend in the lower right.
