Description

While most promotional material related to Disneyland has an appeal aimed at the younger generations, this pictorial map had a more adult audience in mind. It was published in 1956 (the second year of operation) by Walt Disney Productions to advertise services offered in the park by the Bank of America. Text and illustrations on the verso highlight a convenient, fully-equipped branch on Main Street and special souvenir money orders, available without charge and “as good as cash whenever you want to convert them.”

The image also presents more information than your typical Disneyland map, with dozens of attractions, shops, and restaurants listed for each of the five primary park sections; Frontierland, Main Street, Tomorrowland, and Fantasyland. Charming illustrations present the highlights in a stylized manner, providing a generalized overview of the park layout, rather than an accurate guide to each point of interest.

According to the Mouse Museum, “This early Disneyland brochure map features one of the most popular early-park maps for today’s collector. While the 1955 version is sought after for its connection to the park’s opening, the 1956 has become desirable for the Walt Disney Productions map featured in its interior.”
