Description
This vibrant bird’s eye view of ‘The Happiest Place on Earth’ is one of the various annual editions sold as souvenirs within the park, beginning with it’s opening in 1955. The series of keepsake maps provides a fascinating visual catalog of Disneyland’s growth into one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet. They are also reminders of the numerous attractions that have been lost during the development of the park.
The primary image presents an attractive overview of Disneyland in Anaheim, California as it would have appeared to visitors during the 1987 season. Rides, amusements, amenities, and shops are individually illustrated and labeled within the park’s now seven “themed lands”; Main Street, Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Tomorrowland, Frontierland, Bear Country, and Fantasyland.
Star Tours, a flight simulator featuring personas from the Star Wars universe, opened the same year as publication and can be seen prominently in Tomorrowland. A decorative border of some of Disney’s most iconic characters and a recreation of the Disneyland dedication plaque complete the commemorative view.
