Description
How does one make a grueling cycling race interesting for young children? Add the friends of Mickey Mouse, of course! This cartoon map of France was issued by Walt Disney Productions and Le Parisian Newspaper in conjunction the 1980 Tour de France.
Though the iconic mouse is absent from the image (likely due to licensing restraints), Goofy is shown to struggle from start to finish, cheered on by Donald Duck’s nephews (Huey, Dewey, and Louie). The course departed from Frankfort and covered approximately 3,842 km across 22 different stages.
The route, time attack, and rest cities are noted according to the legend in the lower right. A history of the Tour de France, and places to track the winner of each stage, can be found on the verso.
