Description

Prior to its association with the world famous golf course, Pebble Beach was a quaint retreat on California’s Monterey Peninsula. The lodge was purchased by Samuel Finley Brown Morse, ‘The Duke of Del Monte’, in 1919 and was incorporated into his extensive real estate holdings in the area.

This promotional brochure was issued shortly after the acquisition, and advertises the Lodge at Pebble Beach, the Pacific Grove Hotel and the Del Monte Hotel as “under the same management.” The centerfold map provides a colorful overview of the Peninsula, with its celebrated 17 mile drive highlighted in red and other ‘scenic boulevards’ shown in blue.

The image was drawn by Worthington Gates and printed in Oakland by the Kelley-Davis Company.
