Description

This striking image depicts two young girls kneeling in prayer as they look over a map of the Western Front, a picture of their father hanging nearby. The Meuse-Argonne campaign, launched in September, was the largest and costliest action in U.S. military history (at the time), hoping to permanently knock Germany out of the war as part of the Hundred Days’ Offensive.

Based on a painting by Harold Brett. Published in the October 1918 issue of The Ladies’ Home Journal.
