Description
This Dated Events War Map, the 22nd edition printed by Shaw-Barton, highlights the Allied progress towards Berlin in late 1944. Although the German counter-offensive at the Battle of the Bulge was a setback, one inset map shows the red of the Allied advance through France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. A second inset emphasizes the Red Army’s trek through the Balkan countries, including Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary.
The latest action in the Pacific theater is also shown, as an inset map of the Philippine islands reflects the invasion on Leyte and Samar islands. Includes a dated bookseller’s stamp of Jan. 6, 1945 on the verso, indicating this edition was likely distributed to the public in early 1945. The constant need for up-to-date information is one explanation behind the dozens of versions of the map that were produced.
