Based on the boldly printed timeline adjacent to the title cartouche, this 25th edition of the Dated Events War Map series was likely issued in the first week of May, 1945. Advertisements for the forthcoming “V-E Day” edition can be seen, but an inset map still shows the Allied forces closing in on Berlin. A second inset shows the Red Army’s push through the Balkan countries, including the fall of Romania and Yugoslavia.
While much of the world celebrated Hitler’s downfall, conflict in the Pacific raged on. Two further insets in the lower right show the latest action from the Philippine campaign, as well as the Japanese home islands that includes a reference to the beginning of the Okinawa campaign on March 18, 1945. This map features a particularly interesting advertisement calling on companies to purchase the forthcoming V-E Day editions, presumably with their own logo, for distribution.
