Description
This lovely illustrated map, published in 1936 by the Württemberg-Hohenzollern State Tourism Agency, presents a fairy-tale-like view of the Krocher River Valley in southern Germany. Rolling green hills and verdant forests are punctuated by small medieval towns, picturesque castles, and outdoor resort areas. Distances between points are noted (in kilometers) throughout the local road network. Text at the bottom of the page provides information about several of the most prominent locations, while the verso presents numerous captioned photographs of various attractions.
The map is signed Ruep in the lower right. Though the first initial appears to be a G, I believe the author is Joseph Ruep, a talented German illustrator who specializes in aerial topographic views. Printed in Munich in 1936, as an apparent collaboration between M. Wittop G.M.B.H. and F. Bruckman A.G.
