Description

“It is primarily to Mr. Stinchcomb that credit is due for evolving the scheme of building a boulevard system in Cuyahoga County second to none in the United States, and for securing the necessary legislation for making the Park District a permanent institution on a sound legal basis, and outside the pale of partisan politics.” – Text, verso.

This interesting road map of Cuyahoga County in northern Ohio was distributed compliments of W.A. Stinchcomb, who was running for re-election as county surveyor in 1920. Paved roads, highlighted in red, radiate from the Cleveland city limits in all directions. Letters outside the county borders reflect nearby destinations, outlined in the lower right. Bright green showcases the robust network of county boulevards, while text on the verso offers information on local demographics, streetcar lines, county planning, history, and the park system.
