Countenance et Plane de Toules nos Terres en 1868 [French Manuscript Plat Maps]

Manuscript French atlas documenting the a series of properties, probably belonging to an aristocratic family.

This interesting handwritten property record, written in French and dated 1868, appears to show the titles of a family named Berente (according to the partially decipherable text on the front cover). Over two dozen parcels are somewhat hastily sketched with very little identifying information, like scale, legends, or survey markers. Each map is accompanied by a brief title that seems to reflect its use or designation (i.e. barn, houses, gardens, Madam’s Field, etc.). Areas are provided in toise, a pre-Revolutionary unit of measurement that approximates to about 3.8 square meters.
