Description
This rather ingenious map of Cook County, Illinois offers an easy-to-read snapshot of the locations of Packard Service Stations (fifteen total) across the Chicagoland area. Car dealers, company branches, and certified mechanics are noted by the nearest street corner, leaving much negative space to be occupied by a few attractive decorative elements.
The Art Deco style map was published in 1929 as the centerfold to a brochure advertising Packard’s Chicago facilities. Accompanying text proudly proclaims; “In 1928 in Cook County, Packard sold 1 out of every 3 cars listed over $2,000 in price. Placed bumper to bumper, these Packards would reach from the Art Institute to Evanston.” Detroit-based Packard was one of the top-selling luxury brands in the world during the 1920s and 1930s.
