Description
This charming early 20th-century promotional pamphlet highlights the interurban routes in operation across the Connecticut River Valley, east of Hartford. Bright white lines representing railway tracks connect the various towns and cities across the region. Billowing smokestacks and church steeples give vague impressions of local skylines. Locations of interest (especially parks) and natural attractions like Mt. Tom, the Notch, and Mt. Sugar Loaf are also labeled.
The illustrated covers are notable, as they presented a well-dressed lady with a parasol literally ‘Taking the Trolley.’ Descriptive text and photographs of points of interest are also provided on the verso.
Drawn by E.A. Sherman and published in 1905 by T.C. Perkins of Hartford, Connecticut. Lithography by the J. Ottoman Lithograph Company, located in New York’s Puck Building.
