Description

This detailed depiction of a compass rose was published in 1685 by Allain Manesson Mallet for inclusion in the first German edition of his Description de l’Univers. The top three images show in detail different views of a brass compass, while the lower portion of the sheet is dedicated to providing the names of sixteen different directions and their corresponding winds (in Latin).
