Description
This small and ephemeral map was probably published in a late 19th-century newspaper or magazine, based on a text clipping on the verso. It shows a visual comparison between the Jordan River in Utah and the River Jordan in Palestine. Both are shown connecting two bodies of water amid a steep valley, with a prominent mountain peak to the south and several large cities on the shoreline.
Though a stretch, geographically speaking, the image does provide a very persuasive image of Utah, or ‘Deseret’, physically mirroring the Holy Land.
