Description
This lovely hand colored copperplate engraved map shows an important historical region that was part of the former Kingdom of Bohemia. Today, the county and city of Kladsko (Glatz, in German) lies entirely within the borders of Poland, but at the time of publication it was under the control of the Hapsburg Empire.
The largely Protestant region was a violent battleground in the ongoing Thirty Years’ War, and experienced terrible hardships and numerous sieges. A legend in the upper left corner notes the symbols used to identify a variety of settlements, mines, and geographic features.
Two decorative cartouches in the lower corners depicts hunters, their dogs, and a variety of available quarry. Hunting was a popular past time, but generally only available to the upper class elite.

Condition: A-
Condition Description: Faint wear along the vertical centerfold and several small tears along the outer edges (the largest have been repaired on the verso). One extraneous crease in the left margin, away from the image. Very good overall, with attractive hand color.
