Description

This copperplate engraved sheet uses a central diagram to illustrate the spatial relationship between the equator, polar circles, tropics, and Solstitial colure. These reference points and their intersections are cornerstones in the celestial coordinate system, and text along either side of the image explains each in further detail, along with their use in mathematical calculations.

The image was prepared by Buy de Mornas, a professor of geography, and published by Louis-Charles Desnos in Paris.
