Description
A series of eight draft illustrations from the Business Cartoon Service of Chicago. Topics include golf (with a flapper!), WWI, Colonel McCormick, labor, and more. The group includes a racist caricature, probably of a Pullman porter.
The Business Cartoon Service was a commercial syndicate active in the early-to-mid 20th century that produced ready-made stock illustrations, cut-outs, and humorous vignettes for print media. Designed primarily for corporate newsletters, trade publications, newspapers, and regional advertising campaigns, its expansive output allowed businesses to incorporate professional artwork without hiring an in-house illustrator.
