Description
“The object of this little folder is to give one the idea of what we, the citizens of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Believed to be the most perfect place on earth to live and enjoy life the year round.” – text, verso.
This uncommon promotional map was issued in 1924 by the Broward County Commissioners to encourage investment and settlement in the coastal Florida county, which had been established only a decade earlier. The area was in the midst of a huge real estate boom, and the towns of Hollywood, Deerfield, and Davie were incorporated around the same time the pamphlet was published.
Fort Lauderdale, a more established community, is identified as ‘The City of Opportunity for YOU’, while numerous agricultural and recreational resources are labeled throughout and in the adjacent borders. Muck soil on the edge of the Everglades offers two and three crop harvests yearly, while the Dixie Highway, Florida East Coast Railroad, and steamship passenger lines offer a variety of transportation options for those looking to check out Broward County for themselves.
Text and photographs on the verso expound further on Broward County’s many delights. Statistics given through 1923 help to narrow the date of publication. Printed in St. Augustine by the Record Company.
