Description
This detailed overview of Central Tokyo was issued in June of 1948 by the 64th Engineer Base Topographic Battalion of the United States Army. A variety of transportation infrastructure, troop housing, and military installations are identified according to the legend in the lower right. Most are labeled, providing a fascinating insight into the organization of the city.
The density of these facilities across certain areas is evident, reflecting the heavy military presence in Occupied Japan in the years immediately following the war. The verso provides an index of Allied installations, a mileage chart, and inset maps that show the approaches to Tokyo and the Marunouchi District.
