Description
The Century of Progress was a World’s Fair held along 3.5 miles of Chicago’s Lake Michigan waterfront in 1933 to celebrate the city’s 100th anniversary. This commemorative volume was published locally by the Rand McNally Company to showcase many of the numerous attractions and exhibits from over twenty nations and the majority of the states.
Captioned black and white images credited to a variety of sources are accompanied by descriptive text about the fair, Chicago’s history, and its impressive industry and architecture. A brightly colored bird’s eye view of the fairgrounds, designed by H.M. Pettit in 1932, occupies the centerfold. Today, much of the area is occupied by Museum Campus, Soldier Field, and Northerly Island.
