Description

This handy map shows the network of the Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee between its two terminus points in the Chicago Loop and Milwaukee. Passenger and freight service lines are noted according to the legend in the lower left. The verso presents a large scale of downtown Chicago which shows the departure points for North Bound and South Bound lines, as well as the terminals for numerous other railroads.

Published by the Traffic Department of the Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee Railroad in September 1956, according to a printer’s code on the city map. At the time, the company was experiencing significant financial difficulties due to mismanagement, strained labor relations, and competition from automobiles. It would cease all operations in 1963, though some of the route would be incorporated into the Chicago Transit Authority
