Description
The first 75+ years of Chicago’s (European) history is condensed and channeled into this captivating multi-image print. Fifteen separate scenes are anchored by two bird’s eye views of Chicago; the upper in 1830 and the lower in 1853; evidence of the city’s fantastic growth in only a few decades. Other notable illustrations include Chicago’s first non-native resident, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, both Fort Dearborns, and a view of Chicago in 1845 from the western prairies.
The print was originally published in Chicago by Kurz & Allison in 1893 to sell at the Columbian Exposition held in Chicago that year, but this example is a later, limited-edition reproduction issued by Historic Urban Plans of Ithaca, New York.
