Description

This is a fascinating overview of the Chicago Metropolitan Area that was prepared and issued in 1956 by the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Industrial Realtors (SIR). It provides a persuasive argument for potential businesses to relocate to the region in the prosperous years following World War II.

Parcels of land dedicated to industrial developments are highlighted in yellow, notably the Clearing Industrial District and the Central Manufacturing District, the first of its kind. Golf courses, Forest Preserves, and parks are shaded, highlighting the many recreational areas available to employees.

A robust transportation system is presented, comprised of dozens of miles of railways and planned superhighways. Proposed toll roads, elevated rails, and subways are also noted.
