Description
This eye-catching tapestry presents the grounds of the 1933 Century of Progress, a World’s Fair held along Chicago’s Lake Michigan shoreline to celebrate the city’s 100 years of growth. The Sky Ride, one of the iconic attractions of the fair, dominates the scene. Other identifiable elements include the North and South Lagoons, Electrical Hall, Swift Bridge, and Magic Mountain. An airplane is shown soaring overhead – there were numerous aviation exhibitions highlighting the industry’s incredible technological developments.
I’ve been unable to identify an artist’s signature or any manufacturer’s marks, but the tapestry was produced in at least two other colors (red and blue) and at least three sizes, indicating it was a relatively popular form of souvenir.
