Founded in 1893 by Maxime Gaillard, Maxim’s is a legendary Parisian restaurant located on Rue Royale. Throughout the 20th century, Maxim’s became synonymous with high society and elegance, attracting celebrities, royalty, and intellectuals. Known for its opulent Art Nouveau decor and gourmet French cuisine, Maxim’s has maintained its reputation as a symbol of Parisian luxury and gastronomy into the modern day.
This vintage menu of Maxim’s was printed for the evening of July 4th, 1957. The inner sheet presents an elaborate repast of hors d’oeuvres, soups, shellfish, entrees, and desserts, with prices in francs. The decorative outer wrap shows a stylized rendering of the restaurant interior with named caricatures of various guests.
