Description
This small copperplate engraved map shows the eight islands of Hawaii highlighted with modern hand color. Though the title refers to the archipelago as the Sandwich Islands, the toponyms reference almost exclusively indigenous names for each island and geographic feature. Topography is depicted in hachure.
The map was engraved by William and Daniel Lizars and published by William Blackwood in Edinburgh in 1816. Originally included as part of Kerr’s Collection of Voyages & Travels.
