Description

This is a charming (and exaggerated) pictorial view of Chicago published during the late 1930’s, while Meig’s Field was merely a “Proposed Air Port”.

Amusing vignettes adorn the locations of popular attractions at the time, including Soldier Field, International Amphitheater, and the Chicago Stadium. Fort Dearborn is positioned in the location of the “battle” in 1812, rather than in it’s original location and Mrs. O’Leary’s cow can be seen kicking over a lantern. Chicago’s bounteous wealth and opportunity is reinforced by overflowing cornucopias at the bottom of the cartouche; while illustrations of trains, planes, and ships allude to the many transportation options available to visitors and residents alike.

The map was issued as a fold out brochure published by the joint efforts of The Chicago Association of Commerce and The Greater Chicago Hotel Association.
