This attractive steel-engraved world map was originally issued in a late 19th century geography textbook, according to the exercises printed on the verso. It shows the directions of the primary trade winds, variable winds, monsoons, and ocean currents, with the latter identified as cold or warm depending on the style of line. Sailing and steamship routes are also noted, reflecting the rapid transition of transportation technology during the period.
