Description

This simple spin-and-move board game was published in 1935 by the Champion Spark Plug company to promote the use of its products in the burgeoning motor tourism market. Two to four players control their race car (two pieces included) and begin in the upper left. By spinning a dial (not included), they would advance the token the appropriate number of spaces and follow any special instructions. An overtake will earn an extra spin, and the first to cross the finish line wins.

Illustrations along the bottom of the page highlight results from major events from action sports in 1934, including the winner of the Indianapolis 500 (Bill Cummings) and the President’s Cup (George Reis). Naturally, the contribution of Champion Spark Plugs to their victory is prominently noted, along with a logo. “USE THE SPARK PLUGS CHAMPIONS USE” [Verso]
