Champaign-Urbana

Champaign-Urbana during the 1950s.

Though technically two distinct cities in central Illinois, Champaign and Urbana are often combined; such as in the name of its official flagship educational institution – the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The campus grounds and corresponding building legend can be seen near the bottom of this map, copyrighted in 1953 by local Civil Engineer Hubert E. Goodell and originally sold for thirty cents.

Streets are labeled throughout, with a handy index on the left side of the page. Railroads, section boundaries, and city limits are identified according to the legend in the lower left. Other features of interest include parks, cemeteries, schools, the fairgrounds, the Illinois National Guard Armory, and a large public health facility covering the tuberculosis sanitarium and children’s home.
