Description
Nicknamed variously “California’s Magic Isle” and “Los Angeles’ Island Suburb”, the island of Catalina is situated about 30 miles southwest of Long Beach. William Wrigley, Jr., the chewing gum magnate, bought much a controlling interest in the property and began developing it as a tourist destination in the 1920s.
This brochure was designed by Wrigley and published by Young & McCallister, Inc. in Los Angeles in 1926. It shows recent construction efforts to bring much-needed amenities and recreational comfort to the island and includes a stunning bird’s eye view highlighting the luxurious accommodations and other locations of interest. Accompanying text and photographs provide further details on points of interest, leisure opportunities, and more.
