Originally released in 1985 in Japan, Castlequest was one of the earliest side scrolling video games that laid the groundwork for later popular franchises like Castlevania and Metroid. A mix of platforming and puzzle solving, the 1989 NES release saw the player navigate one hundred different rooms in order to rescue Princess Margarita.
