Description
This map of southern Mexico shows the area from Durango to Acapulco, with Mexico City in the center of the sheet. It shows the kingdom (reino) of Mexico after it was re-organized as a result of the recent Bourbon Reforms in the early 18th century; after the War of Spanish Succession.
Towns and cities are labeled in size according to their relative importance to the Spanish crown, and simple topographical detail is provided via small rolling hills. A decorative rococo cartouche and scale complete the image. The map was published in Paris for Prevost d’Exiles influential travel book, L’Histoire Generale des Voyages.
