This fun-filled souvenir map was designed and published by Citigraph, Inc. of Cary, North Carolina in 1989. It provides a lively bird’s eye view of the Carowinds amusement park, first opened to the public near Charlotte in 1973.
The grounds actually straddle the state line, with passengers aboard the Thunder Road roller coaster (top right) crossing into South Carolina during the ride. Other attractions, food options, guest amenities, and games are illustrated and individually labeled. Highlights include the Sky Tower, Whitewater Falls, Carolina Goldrusher (one of the few original rides still in operation), and the newly renovated RipTide Reef (opened the same year as publication).
