Published in 1979 by the Cave Research Foundation, who continues to work on mapping and preserving Carlsbad Caverns in addition to other subterranean projects around the country. The year prior to publication, the Carlsbad Caverns Wilderness was established with the signing of the National Parks and Recreation Act by President Jimmy Carter.
