Description
This anonymous lithographed map presents an informative political overview of Britain’s Cape Colony around 1875, shortly before the outbreak of the First Boer War. Districts are outlined in red and an interesting mix of geographic features, landmarks, and settlements are labeled throughout. The white area in the southeast is likely an early iteration of Ciskei, an enclave for Black Africans.
