This decorative map of the Holy Land was engraved by Richard Palmer and based on a previous map of Canaan by Nicholas Visscher. It shows the area corresponding roughly to modern day Israel and Palestine and is embellished with three decorative cartouches; one shows the symbols used to represent different types of cities, another contains the scale in English miles, and a third holds the title. The first two are held aloft by puttis or cherubs. Within the image is a great amount of detail related to places throughout the Old and New Testaments, including the Woods of Ephraim, the Wilderness of Judah, and the way to Bethlehem.
