Description

This small and ephemeral advertising card was distributed to attendees of the 1893 World’s Fair held in Chicago’s Jackson Park. It highlights the proximity of Camp Sheridan, an outdoor tent campsite, to the fairgrounds and elevated rail lines. In addition to the cool lake breezes, a 24-hour watchman and reasonable weekly rates are presented as incentives for visitors.

One side of the card presents a simple map of the Columbian Expo grounds and the nearby Camp Sheridan. Text at the bottom, trimmed off, formerly advertised Special Rates for Families. The verso offers a view of the fenced-in camp, including tennis courts and large shade trees. Single beds, available for 50 cents a day, were apparently just hammocks!
