This interesting panoramic image, designed as a postcard, presents a staged view of Rockford’s Camp Grant. Neatly whitewashed buildings sit amid a pristine landscape that subtly features the latest comforts – electricity, hot water, motorized vehicles, etc. Regiments of marching infantry march on as officers mingle on horseback and aircraft fly dangerously overhead.

Established in 1917, the training camp became one of the largest in the United States during WWI (as described in the corresponding caption). Over 1,000 men at the camp lost their lives during the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic.
