Description

This intriguing compilation was published in 1959 by West Chicago’s Sidwell Studio, Inc. Nearly 120 separate maps, split across two volumes, cover almost the entirety of Cook County Illinois’ Calumet Township, plus several other nearby enclaves. Index maps at the beginning of each half highlight the irregular borders in bright red, while the pages that follow provide a comprehensive overview of plot sizes, the house numbering system, railways and other major infrastructure, notable buildings, prominent property owners, and other details of interest to the real estate industry.

Notable locations include Whistler Preserve, several country clubs, the Little Calumet River, the Calumet-Sag Channel, and the CSX interstate railyard at Burr Oak. Text on each page indicates it was updated to the early 1960s and blocks of text on either side provide further details on the organization and history of various subdivisions. A lack of paste-downs or manuscript updates indicates the volume was lightly used over the course of its relatively short lifespan.
