Description

Issued as an officially licensed product by Walt Disney Productions, this souvenir serving tray heavily leverages the pantheon of characters as mascots for various areas of the state. Chip (or Dale, I can’t really tell) is painting near Camel-by-the-Sea, Donald Duck is feeding lion cubs in San Diego, and the Mad Hatter is playing piano at the Hollywood Bowl.

Lesser known locations like Solvang (a Dutch town near Santa Barbara), Lion Country (a wildlife preserve in Irvine), and Scotty’s Castle in Death Valley are also appropriately represented with related Disney characters. Mickie and Minnie can be seen flying over it all in an unorthodox hot air balloon.

An interesting effort by the company to identify more broadly with the state in the early 1970’s (dated using the presence of Baloo from the Jungle Book (1967), Lion Country (1970), and the absence of Robin Hood (1974).
